An Exclusive Interview with MSI

Winston: Tell us more about MSI as a company, your team, its goals and achievements.

Joanne: Established in August 1986, MSI is a specialist in the design and manufacture of motherboards, add-on cards, servers/workstations, barebones, communication devices and CE Products and Notebooks. Surmounting a challenging industry, we are now ranked within the world's top 3 motherboard manufacturers and one of the top 5 server manufacturers. What's more, MSI graphics card has the most amazing sales performance over the past years, making it to the no. 1 position in the world for four consecutive years. MSI continues to put its philosophy "Quality Products, Customer Satisfaction" - into practice.

Winston:  Where do MSI regard itself in terms of market share and position? Does MSI look to expand and capture new market share? If so, how will they do that?

Joanne: In this emerging digital era, MSI continues to sustain its distinct global competitive advantage by developing superior technology and innovative products. The way MSI looks to expand and capture new market share is to offer a comprehensive range of product lines, which includes motherboard, graphics card, server/workstation, barebone, CE, communication and notebook products with a highly-competitive prices to customers. Netbooks now look to drive new market share for MSI, being able to deliver the first Intel Atom Netbook, puts MSI at the forefront of this growth.  Also, adopting a diversified management and business strategy, MSI is committed to delivering the highest attainable quality products and services to assure 100% complete customer satisfaction.

Winston:  Overclocking is a very lucrative, yet highly competitive sector. It seems that MSI have been concentrating in this very niche market. Can we expect to see more products designed specifically for overclocking?

Joanne: Definitely. MSI continues focusing on the development of the overclocking technology over a variety of products –MB, VGA, NB, etc. MSI were the worlds first to offer a overclockable notebook the GX600, we have now expanded on this by offering the overclocking option on ALL our G-Series gaming lineup.  We will keep on the release of more products specified in overclocking in the near future.

Winston:  MSI  hosted a recent overclocking event with great success … Will we expect more events from MSI in the near future?

Joanne: Yes MSI were able to hold a very successful overclocking event earlier this year within Europe. We had 20 teams from around Europe compete with the UK team getting a respectable 6th, now the European champions Greece and Turkey will head to Taiwan to compete in the grand finals. Its demonstrates what we were just talking about regards overclocking.  MSI P45 motherboards are the only available to offer the latest DrMos power technology, allowing some quite outstanding results.  We joined the UK largest Lan party (multiplay i34) in August and will be at the What Hi-Fi & Stuff show live later this year!

Winston:  MSI recently released the WIND series of mini PCs and Netbooks. Does MSI see a growing market in this sector … or is it just following the current trend.

Joanne: Due to economic downturn, the market has been more though than before. However, by introducing WIND series, it brings MSI not only the growth of volume also branding. In worldwide, by awarding from a number of media on MSI wind, it enables MSI to expose its brand to a large number of people in a short period. Netbooks were this week attributed to providing a Western Europe 23% growth rate up double from 12% growth in 2007, from an IDC report. The consumer portables category grew 60 percent during the second quarter of 2008, again attributed to netbooks by IDC.  So there is certainly growth to be had in this sector.

Winston:  What exciting new products can we expect from MSI in the coming months leading upto 2009.

Joanne: MSI are due to relaunch their E-Series notebook line in early 2009, E is for entertainment, and we ill offer the end user some real value to buying a notebook for which could be Gaming, watching HD content or just surfing the web. Also in 2009 you should look out for the new Wind netbook… Also I can see that 2009 will hold a host of new tech on the Motherboard and Graphics segment, we are already working toward the next generation CPU and Graphics set to hit next year.

Winston:  Finally, what plans does MSI have in the future for CPU3D readers?

Joanne: We have seen the phenomenal growth of CPU3D over the past year, and we're not surprised. It shows your doing something right!  We already work closely with CPU3D because you are intouch with our target audience of Tech leaders.  CPU3D readers can be sure that because of this they will always be one of the first to hear of new and exciting products and tech fresh from MSI award winning R&D labs!
