Interview with OCZ Technology

Once again, we were London ... but this time we met up with OCZ's Tobias Brinkmann, Director of Marketing for Europe. We asked about what future plans does OCZ have, and what they've got in store for us in 2009.

Winston: Hi Tobias, welcome to London. how was the trip from the Netherlands?

Tobias: Hi Winston, I'm fine thanks. The trip was ok ... nearly missed the flight ... hehe.

Winston: OK, let's get down to business. Tell our readers more about yourself, OCZ Technology and a little bit about its history.

Tobias: I'm Tobias Brinkmann ... my title within the company is the Director of European Marketing for OCZ Technology. We have head offices in Sunnyvale in San Francisco, US and our European office is based in Delft, Netherlands ... that's where I'm based. OCZ Technology specialise is many computer components for both mainstream and highend enthusiast users. These components include memory, power supplies, cooling solutions, and now we've included laptops, gaming mice and keyboards.

Winston: Over the past few years, OCZ Tecgnology have grown from strength to strength. What plans does OCZ Technology have in place for 2009?

Tobias: We are working with a lot of our partners to produce and deliver the products that our customers want. Whether our customers are mainstream or highend enthusiast, we will have products that will satisfy their needs. For 2009, you will see a lot more from OCZ Technology.

Winston: I've noticed over the past 12 months, a lot of manufacturers have shifted some of their focus to the mobile and notebook market. Is this something that OCZ Technology will be expanding on?

Tobias: Of course, in fact OCZ Technology were one of the first manufacturers to enter the notebook market. We already have Hypersonic under our OCZ umbrella, they specialise in highend enthusiast and gaming laptops, unfortunately Hypersonic are not available yet in the European market yet. As for OCZ Technology, we've developed and introduced our "White Book". This is one of first ever customiseable notebooks on the market. Users will be able to upgrade or customise the notebook to their needs and tastes.

Winston: That's really interesting. I will be looking out for that over the coming months. So, what else is OCZ Technology focusing on for 2009.

Tobias: Like in any business, we can not forget our roots and our core business. So, for OCZ Technology, it is very important to further expand and develop new products that we specialise in ... and that's memory, power supplies and cooling solutions. We are close partners with Intel, so with the imminent release of the Core i7 processors and new X58 platform ... watch out for our Tri-Channel memory kits.

Winston: The popularity of PC gaming and eSports are on the rise, especially in Europe. Has OCZ Technology taken advantage of this niche market?

Tobias: Yes, indeed we have. OCZ Technology have always been in the forefront of PC gaming and the eSports scene, and over the past few years we've developed new innovative gaming products such as the NIA (Neural Impulse Accutaor). What's more, we now have a range of "Fatal1ty" branded products. As for the eSports scene, we already sponsor several of our own Pro-gaming Clan, which include 20ID, Paradigm Shift, mTw and Reason Gaming. We also plan to expand our range of gaming peripherals to include mice and keyboards too.

Winston: Wow, looks like OCZ Technology are really going full steam ahead. So, What market share does OCZ Technology have over its competitors?

Tobias: It's hard to say really. OCZ Technology offer such a wide range of products and we also focus on different areas. I think our closest competitor would be Corsair and Patriot, but having said that ... I believe OCZ Technology is already top 3 in the world in regards to memory and power supplies.

Winston: The Asian market is a tough one ... does OCZ Technology look to expand in that area?

Tobias: Yes, we already have plans for that. We will be focusing our notebooks in GITEX (Dubai) and also showcasing other products in Computex (Taiwan). And with CPU3D's support and your chinese roots ... I'm sure we'll reach out to those in Asia ;)

Winston: Now for something different. What do you think of CPU3D?

Tobias: Haha ... I've been waiting for that. Yes, I think CPU3D is great. The new look website has really shown people in the industry that you guys are growing. Being an independant hardware review website is not easy ... and I admire your dedication and commitment. What matters to me most, is that you reach out to our key target audience. I will be working with you guys more closely.

Winston: That's great news ... thanks Tobias. CPU3D will definitely do what it takes. Working closely with our partners is the key to our success.

Tobias: Yes it is. I will be speaking with Joey and Alex in Sunnyvale over the next few weeks to brief you about our in-depth plans for 2009.

Winston: Thank you Tobias for your time and hope you have a nice stay in London.

Tobias: Yes, it's been great and I appreciate you guys coming to London to meet me. I look forward in seeing CPU3D to grow even more.
