"... The MSI P6N SLI Platinum motherboard is a very good all-round offering an excellent price over performance ratio. It's not an enthusiast board, but it can certainly perform like one. "

MSI targets the mainstream and performance market with the P6N Platinum motherboard.

INTRODUCTION

MSI have always been producing quality motherboards as far as I can remember. And to continue the same tradition, they've now introduced their motherboards using Nvidia's nForce 600 series chipset ... the P6N SLI Platinum. This motherboard is aimed at the mainstream and performance market, and uses the nForce 650i SLI chipset ... which according to Nvidia, is their mid-range version within nForce 600 series.

As I've said in many occasions, the mainstream market is where a lot of manufacturers make they profit ... it's their "bread & butter" business. Without this, they would find it extremely difficult to survive in this competitive computer business. So what better than to introduce a motherboard, that not only offers excellent value for money, but also with performance to match.

The P6N SLI Platinum supports 1066FSB and can use both Core 2 Duo and Core 2 Quad processors, including the new 1333FSB processors when they become available. It also has two PCIe x16 slots for SLI configuration (x8 mode) and 4 x DDR2 DIMMs supporting upto 8Gb of ram.

There's one thing that I noticed about MSI and that is, they ususally offer a lot of extras with their products. Good packaging, with plenty of cables and backplates for USB/Firewire connections.

Featuring heat-pipe chipset cooling, MSI's Dual CoreCell feature, D.O.T. overclocking and solid capacitors ... the P6N SLI Platinum certainly has a lot to offer. But can the nForce 650i SLI chipset onboard give the mainstream and performance users what they want?

With some many manufacturers now producing their new motherboards to support Intel's Core 2 Duo/Quad processors, MSI has to offer something special to attract the masses. Will the P6N SLI Platinum succeed?

OK, let's not waste anymore time, and take a closer look at MSI's P6N SLI Platinum motherboard ...
