Hiper TypeR II 730W

Hiper made its name with their infamous TypeR power supplies a few years ago. They were one of the first manufacturers to introduce a modular system for the internal power cabling on PSUs. All the cables were separated from the main power supply unit, and users were able to add or remove only the power cables they needed to use ... therefore reducing messy redundant cables. This power supply looked great and featured a mesh casing and 2 large silent fans. It really appealed to many enthusiasts. However, many users who purchased these Hiper TypeR PSUs later found out, that the majority of the first batch were plagued with faults and stability problems. Hiper had to respond quickly ... customer complaints, coupled with bad media exposure was making Hiper a real bad name. A new and improved second batch was produced and released, and later the problem was never heard of again.

Hiper have moved on from this experience and improved their products. They've released the TypeR MKII 730W is their latest high powered PSU aimed at the high-end and power user. This time, they've gotten rid off their modular system in favour of the more coventional direct cabling system. Which means more messy redundant cabling ... but so what! As long as the power supply is stable and problem free.

The power supply's casing feels solid and the overall build quailty is very good. One feature I like about the TypeR MKII There's a total of 5 USB ports at the rear of the unit, all fully powered with 1 upto 1.0A. This one of a few power supplies that offer this feature, and it's nice to have. There's also a total of four +12v rails (4@16A), which is more than enough to feed power hungry devices. However, one thing I noticed the TypeR II 730W, there are no grills or fans on the underside of the PSU which faces the motherboard. This could restrict air-flow out of the system and could therefore cause problems with cooling.
Here's a list of the available power connectors for your peripherals:
1 x 24-pin ATX v2.2 connector
1 x 4-pin power for CPU/motherboard
1 x 8-pin power for motherboard / PCIe
2 x 6-pin PCIe for graphics card
4 x SATA connectors
4 x 4-pin molex connectors
1 x USB extention cable
