Vvikoo releases an overclocked Geforce 9600GT to attract the mainstream gamers ... 

INTRODUCTION

At the recent Cebit 2008 exhibition, we saw a lot of manufacturers including Abit, Foxconn, Gigabyte, MSI and Inno3D, displaying their new Geforce 9600GT graphic cards. Some even broke Nvidia's NDA and sneakly showed off their lastest Geforce 9800GX2. It was all very exciting. Now, moving back to this review ... Nvidia's new Geforce 9600GT (G94) is basically a direct competitor to ATI's Radeon HD3850, and it's aimed at the mainstream gamer or medium to high-end user. It offers the same 256-bit memory interface as the G92, but this time the G94 has 64 stream processors, with 57.6 Gb/s memory bandwidth, and a texture fill rate of 20.8 billion per second. In terms of performance, it sits just below a Geforce 8800GT (G92).

In this review, we'll be taking a look at the Vvikoo Geforce 9600GT Turbo graphics card. The card features a very impressive pre-installed, all copper cooler by Zalman (it's the same one found on their other card - 8800GT Max). The card utilises an overclocked Nvidia Geforce 9600GT GPU, which runs at 700Mhz, and features 512Mb of DDR3 ram which is also overclocked @ 2Ghz (2 x 1000Mhz). An overclocked GPU and memory can produce a lot of excess heat. Vvikoo combats this by having a pre-installed all copper cooler by Zalman fitted. The cooler looks very impressive, and features 4 copper heatpipes which fan out to a large array of copper fins ... this is then cooled by quiet fan which spins at 1,400 - 2,500 RPM.

 

One of the first thing you'll notice about the card, are the built-in HDMI and the new Display Port connectors. This is excellent news for HD video enthusiasts. There's also a very surprising SPDIF optical connector with cable included. Very interesting. The pre-installed all copper cooler from Zalman should be more than enough to cool this overclocked card, and it definitely makes this card very attractive. We're expecting some good performance from the Vvikoo Geforce 9600GT Turbo, and I don't expect anything less, specially from an overclocked Geforce G94 GPU.

For our tests, we'll be benchmarking the Vvikoo Geforce 9600GT Turbo with several GPU intensive DX10 games ... with both 4xAA and 16xAF options enabled, as well as your usual 3D Mark 2005 and 2006 tests. Our test rig includes an Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600 @ default 2.4Ghz, Gigabyte GA-P35 DS4 motherboard, Crucial Ballistix Tracer DDR2-800 4Gb Kit, PC Power & Cooling Turbo Cool 860W PSU and a 19" Dell Ultrascan P990 monitor. All-in-all, it's a decently spec'd system for DX10 gaming.

OK, lets not waste any more time and see how well the Vvikoo Geforce 9600GT Turbo will perform against similar cards on the market.
