DFI LanParty DK X38-T2RB Motherboard

"DFI have done a great job with their LanParty DK X38-T2RB motherboard. It's affordable, overclockable and offers very good performance. We'll be seeing a lot more from DFI this year, no doubt about that."

Installation

One of the first things you'll notice about this board are the bright orange and yellow UV sensitive slots and connectors, it really makes this board stand out from the rest. No problems with installation, I found it easy and it's just like installing any other motherboard. All the connectors seem to be in the right places, except for the floppy connector which is located at the bottom end of the motherboard.

After installing our favourite cooler ... the OCZ Vendetta, we were pleased to find enough space around the processor socket for extra air-flow. However, DFI's silent heatpipe chipset cooler completely surrounds the processor socket ... this could be a problem for larger coolers. Another thing to watch out for ... is the capacitors near the processor socket. I felt a little uncomfortable, as they were too close.

Other features (close up)

The package contains all the necessary manuals, cables and drivers on CD. However, it lack some of the extras you might expect from an enthusiast board. Things like extra SATA data/power cables, crossfire ribbon cable or maybe a USB/Firewire backplate. On the motherboard, there's no eSATA or firewire, which I find little disappointing ... but you do get 6 USB ports and one gigabit ethernet port.

What I do like about the DFI LanParty DK X38 T2RB is the external clear CMOS jumper, as well as the internal reset and power-on switches. These are ideal for the extreme overclocker who can restart and recover from a failed overclock. Other feature I also like include the diagnostic LEDs.

The rear ATX I/O features the usual PS/2 Keyboard and mouse, optical SPDIF and clear CMOS jumper. There's also an array of audio connectors, gigabit ethernet and 6 USB ports.
