The BLISS 7900GT Golden Sample ... another top performing video card from Gainward

Introduction

A few weeks ago we reviewed the Bliss 7600GT Golden Sample from Gainward. We thought that it was a decent graphics card that offered great value for money. It performed extremely well and could keep up with some of the high end cards that we've tested.

Now, we take a look at Gainward's Bliss 7900GT Golden Sample. It sports 512MB of super fast DDR3 ram running at 700Mhz (effective 1400Mhz), with the GPU core running at 550Mhz.

We've already explained in our previous review, what Gainward's Golden Sample was all about. For those who are new to this ... it's basically selected GPUs specially picked by Gainward for use in their graphics cards. In other words, if you had a Gainward Golden Sample Geforce card and you compare it with an ordinary Geforce ... what you'll find is that it will overclock better than the ordinary Geforce card, and in most cases offers better performance.

This is nothing new ... manufacturers such as BFG, XFX and Leadtek are already selling "overclocked" graphic cards at a premium.  However, I would much prefer to buy a non-overclocked Golden Sample from Gainward knowing that I have the freedom to overclock the card whenever I want to. I guess it's down to personal choice.

So, what is "Golden Sample" ? ... Well, here's an explanation (taken from Gainward's website).

Based on the next generations of HD-graphics based GPU´s, Gainward is proud to introduce the first Golden Sample version of NVIDIAs GeForce 7900 product. Features like lifelike graphics, HD-Video and many other standard features is not enough for Gainward, we add performance

Increasing the perfomance with approximately 10% from NVIDIA reference design we bet you that BLISS 7900GT Golden Sample is here to stay.

Of course it is, maybe not in the same shape as before but still with the same purpose. Golden Sample products from Gainward offer a higher clocksetting than reference-design boards. That is the heart and soul of Gainward's Golden Sample. With some products this is achieved by using higher performing components than on the reference design boards and on other products the higher performance is achieved by using software utilities.

The hard job is not to offer boards with extremely high clocksettings, anybody can do that. The hard part is to find the correct clocksetting that offers a higher performing as well as a perfectly stable product. If we cross the line we might end up with a super-performing product but with very low stability. This is nothing that we want on our conscience

Gainwards job is to produce higher performing and perfectly stable products, a concept that brings the highest level of satisfaction to the consumer. This is actually not a job but more a fine art which demand great skills from our engineers.

Therefore we are proud to call these products Golden Sample.

For all the current games available now, a single 7900GT card should be more than enough to handle even the most demanding game.

It will be interesting to see how 2 of these cards in SLI mode will perform. Remember that Gainward have already announced and released their flagship graphics card ... the 7950 GX2 with 1Gb of DDR3 ram and dual GPUs. I'm starting to wonder whether there's a market for cards using the 7900GT GPU.

OK, we won't waste anymore time ... let's take a closer look at the Gainward BLISS 7900GT Golden Sample.
