Nvidia this week announced the release of the GeForce 9400 and 9300 motherboard GPUs for desktop PCs on the Intel platform. The new product features 16-cores for processing CUDA-accelerated applications as well as DirectX 10 games. It is able to support Nvidia Hybrid SLI Technology that increases the performance by up to 70 per cent above the motherboard GPU. Jon Peddie, of Jon Peddie Research, said: "By doing so much parallel processing on a single chip, they [Nvidia] can accelerate the new visual computing applications people are getting." He added that the product is affordable. The company claimed that the product is "ideal for small form factor and ultra-slim media center PCs" as the single-chip design has a smaller footprint than other chipsets. Earlier this month, Nvidia announced that its GeForce GTX 280 GPU was to be used in Asus's new CG6155, an "extreme gaming machine". Carroll Hsieh, Asus desktop product management director, said that the aim of the company was to provide gamers with "unprecedented performance and realism".
