"The PC Power Silence 750W Quad PSU a very good PSU, which is more than capable of handling today's demanding components. Quad core overclocking with a Geforce SLI setup ... no problems."
PC Power / OCZ Silencer 750W Quad PSU ... More than enough to power your high-end system
INTRODUCTION
PC Power & Cooling have been producing high quality power supplies ever since the beginning of 1986. They are renowned to be one of industries heavy weights when it comes to power supplies. It's probably one of the reason why OCZ Technology have decided to buy them out, to further expand their product range of high-end, heavy duty power supplies. PC Power & Cooling is now part of OCZ Technology ... with two very good brand names together, any power supply that they release, will be surely be one hell of a product. Below is a little about PC Power & Cooling ... which I've taken from their website.
"On April 19,1985, PC Power & Cooling began operations in a small warehouse just outside of San Diego, CA. Founded by Doug Dodson, a commodity trader and electronic hobbyist, the company's first products were custom fans to cool and quiet computers.
In 1986, the company introduced its Silencer 150 and Turbo-Cool 200, the industry's first ultra-quiet and high-performance power supplies. Other high-end products followed, the reviews were great, and the company continued to grow. In 1991, the company moved to a modern facility in Carlsbad, CA.
Over the last 22 years, PC Power & Cooling has produced many innovative products including: the first CPU cooler, the first PC heat alarm, the first independently-regulated PC power supply, the first redundant power system, the first NVIDIA-certified SLI supply, the first One Kilowatt computer power supply, and the first power supply with its own certified test report (Turbo-Cool 1KW)."
In this review, we'll be taking a look at the PC Power & Cooling / OCZ Silencer 750W Quad PSU. It's aimed at high-end users and enthusiasts who's after performance and silence ... hence the name "Silencer" 750W. The PSU is encased in a black chassis, and uses only one 80mm exhaust fan for quiteness. It's certified Nvidia SLI-ready supporting dual Geforce 8800GTX, and it features mesh cabling rather than a modular cabling system. Other features include a powerful single 12V rail @ 60A ... yes, that's right ... 60A. This should be more than enough to power even the most demanding of components.
Since the maximum current from any one 12V rail of a multiple-rail PSU is limited to 20 amps (240VA / 12 volts = 20 amps), PC Power & Cooling believes that spliting the 12V rails to 2, 4 or 6 rails, actually reduce performance and cause overcurrent shutdowns.
The specs say that the PSU pumps out 750 watts of continuous power with a peak output of 825W ... and I actually believe that. You can be sure that only high quality components are used in this PSU, and you can feel the quality right away when you have it in your hands. As far as looks is concerned ... it's not that great. Pretty boring in fact, but then most good performing products usually are.
OK, let's not waste any more time and take a closer look at the PC Power & Cooling / OCZ Silencer 750W Quad PSU...
