Introduction

OCZ continue to give enthusiasts what they need. The PC2-6400 ReaperX 4Gb kit is just irresistible

INTRODUCTION

Already for 2008, it seems that OCZ Technology are already at "full steam". They've not only recently announced and released one of the highest performing DDR3 ram available on the market, but also the company has come up with some really innovative products. Having already acquired both PC Power & Cooling and Hypersonic, they plan to expand their market share in most areas of the I.T. industry.

OCZ Technology never surprises me with the amount of new and innovative products they release. Last year, we saw for the very first time, their Reaper series of memory products. These memory kits featured their patented HPC (heat pipe conduit) technology, which was one of the most innovative designs of 2007. Moving on, OCZ have further improved this HPC technology, and now they've included a new HPC system on their new ReaperX series of memory products. The new PC2-6400 ReaperX memory comes in 4Gb kits and features this new HPC system. It has two heatpipes and two large array of aluminum fins for maximum heat dissipation.

So, how good is this new HPC system? Will it cool the memory modules more efficiently? Well, it certainly looks good, and those aluminum fins really make it stand out. We expect this new HPC system to perform pretty well and should effectively remove excesss heat during overclocking. It could be a real hit for the extreme overclocker.

The labelling and classification of DDR2 memory can be a little confusing at times. OK, I'll try and give you some DDR2 terminology ... More information can be found HERE

In this review we'll be taking a look at the OCZ PC2-6400 ReaperX 4Gb kit. These modules are rated at DDR2-800 and runs at 400Mhz, and offers enhanced bandwith through very aggressive memory timings of 4-4-3-15.  These modules are also certified SLI-Ready for Nvidia chipsets offering EPP (enhanced memory profile) support, which enables easy memory configuration with having to manually adjust BIOS settings. OCZ's ReaperX series are aimed at the enthusiast market, and comes with a patented new version of their HPC (heat pipe conduit) technology.

The new HPC system has two heatpipes and dual aluminum fin arrays for maximum heat dissipation. It not only looks amazing, but also does an excellent job of cooling the memory memory chips.

In our tests we'll bee installing these modules on an Abit IX38 QuadGT motherboard, along with an Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600 processor and a Radeon HD3870 DDR4 graphics card, running Windows Vista. During the tests, we'll also see how well they can overclock.

Ok, let's not waste any more time and take a closer look at the OCZ PC2-6400 ReaperX 4Gb kit ...
