Introduction

The ASRock A780FullDisplayPort is a highly recommend flavor of the 780G chipset.

INTRODUCTION

As you are aware, ASRock is famous for quality budget motherboards. They have been closely linked with Asus, and some have even said that ASRock motherboards are made by Asus themselves. Maybe there is some kind of truth in it, as we know that ASRock motherboards are produced from the same factories as Asus, using the same engineers. I've previously spoken to an ASRock representitive a while back, and they did admit that ASRock is owned by Asus. And that ASRock's main products are directly aimed at the budget/mainstream market ... leaving the high-end and enthusiast products to Asus.

The ASRock A780FullDisplayPort motherboard features the recently released AMD 780G and SB700 chipset combination. The 780G chipset brings a new feature set to the platform, including DX10 graphics (supplied by the on-board HD3200 IGP), support For the Phenom Quad Core AMD processors and ATI Hybrid Graphics Technology. “ATI Hybrid Graphics allows both an AMD 780 Chipset graphics processor and a discrete graphics processor to communicate and work co-operatively yet independent of each other on an AMD-based system to help provide better performance, productivity and power efficiency. Additionally, in systems operating under Windows Vista, ATI Hybrid Graphics can provide the ability for an integrated graphics processor and a discrete graphics processor to work simultaneously for high performance or dynamically for additional power savings.”

The ECS A780GM-A has the usual feature list that most 780G boards have, with support for Hybrid Graphics, UVD 2.0, DirectX 10, PCI Express 2.0, HDMI/HDCP, Phenom support, HT 5200 MT/s with Hyper Transport 3.0.

OK, let's take a closer look at the specifications of the ASRock A780FullDisplayPort ...
