USB Drives: OCZ Rally2 (4Gb) and Adata S701 (8Gb)

"Both the Adata S701 EeePC Edition and the OCZ Rally2 Turbo are very good ... but, because I'm a fashion victim ... there's only one choice really for me. "

Good points

The flash drive has some ‘weight ‘to it, so you know its there. The case construction is excellent and features a ‘click and slide’ out mechanism concealing the USB connection part. This enables the flash drive to be smaller and more compact than most of the flash drives currently on the market. You could even call it ‘Child Proof’, my 2 year old daughter could not ‘click and slide’ out the USB connector to chew on. The unit worked after being dropped onto a wooden floor 20 times, but it was not subjected to any ‘waterproof’ test.

I love the ‘finish’ on it. The main body is metal surrounding a white enamel type  finish to it which is dimpled. The dimpled effect ensures that you get a good grip when plugging/ unplugging the device. It feels hardwearing and Plug and Play straight out of the package – Windows XP recognised it immediately, no need for any configuration.

Compatible with USB 2 and 1.1

This comes with a huge 8GB of memory! OMG, you could transfer a DVD onto it. Data transfer rates – read and write seem to be fast enough. Transferring large files from hard disk to the device was quick and painless. The same can be said for READing files from the device.

The flash drive is ‘Key chain’ ready and supplied with a key strap. This is great if you use your flash drive every day and you won’t lose it!

Packaging was kept to a minimum, saving all those trees.

The Bad Points

I don’t think you can call this a ‘Bad Point’ but it just comes with a standard warranty, nothing on the package indicates anything more than that.

But does come with come with a USB extension lead which comes in handy (take note for all you people in the same boat as me, who don’t have USB sockets at the front of your Pc cases.) Windows 98 driver not supplied, but this can be downloaded from http://www.adata.com.tw/
