OCZ Vendetta 2 CPU Cooler

"The OCZ Vendetta 2 is a good CPU cooler that's ultra quiet and does an adequate job of cooling your processor. In a nutshell, the Vendetta 2 is a larger but quieter version of the original Vendetta CPU cooler."

Introduction

The OCZ Vendetta 2 has arrived. It now comes with a larger heatsink and a bigger 120mm ultra quiet fan.

INTRODUCTION

For those who missed our original OCZ Vendetta CPU cooler review ... OCZ Technology specialise in memory, power and thermal products for PCs. They manufacture high quality products such as memory modules, flash memory, CPU coolers and power supplies. They were established in 2000 and have been building a name for themselves over the past few years. Here's a little blurb taken from their website.

"Entering the memory market in August 2000, OCZ Technology was built around the determination to manufacture the best high speed DDR and RDRAM. OCZ was founded by enthusiasts, for enthusiasts, and our commitment to the end-user has not digressed. OCZ Technology has been an innovator in many areas. ... In today’s rapidly evolving semiconductor industry, such communication is not simply research, but a necessary component of our manufacturing process. "

OCZ Technology is fast becoming a leader in a wide range of computer components including memory products, thermal solutions, power supplies and now gaming notebooks (via HyperSonic). And to keep up with demand, they've expanded their thermal divison with new cooling products. Last year, we reviewed the original OCZ Vendetta CPU cooler. It was a very good CPU cooler, and we gave it our CPU3D "Highly Recommended" award. Six months have past, and OCZ have now released their new and improved Vendetta 2 CPU cooler. The main differences is the size and shape of the heatsink unit and the included fan. Other than that ... it's virtually the identical.

The actual heatsink unit is taller than the original Vendetta, and the fins are slightly narrower in shape. Being taller means you can have more fins for more efficient heat dissipation. The Vendetta 2 uses the same heatpipe technology as the original Vendetta. There are 3 extra thick copper heatpipes which are merged together at the base of the heatsink unit. These heatpipes are all exposed and will sit directly over the CPU, giving maximum contact between the heatpipes and the processor. The included fan is now 120mm in size ... it's ultra quiet and spins at a low 800-1,500rpm, outputing air-flow of 65-81 CFM.

In this review, our CPU3D review team will be taking a look at the OCZ Vendetta 2 CPU cooler. This cooler features 3 extra thick copper heatpipes which are exposed at the base of the heatsink unit. This allows direct contact with the processor and gives maximum heat absorption. These heatpipes then fan out to a very large array of Aluminum fins, which has a dimple design to eliminate laminar air-flow. The whole heatsink is then cooled by an impressive ultra quiet 120mm fan, which is mounted using anti-vibration rubber bungs, and spins at a very low 800-1,500rpm.

We'll be testing this CPU cooler on our test rig which is comprised of an Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600 processor (B3 stepping) on a Gigabyte GA-X38 DQ6 motherboard. We also used OCZ DDR2-1066 2Gb Kit, a Geforce 9800GTX and a PC Power & Cooling Turbo Cool 860W PSU. It'll be interesting to see how this CPU cooler can compete against others in its class.

OK let's not waste any more time and take a closer look at the OCZ Vendetta 2 CPU cooler.
