Introduction

ATP ToughDrive Camo (8Gb) - It's rugged, it looks good and guaranteed to be water-proof. We put it through the test.

INTRODUCTION

Large capacity USB flash drive are now widely available ... however, for may users size isn't everything. Nowadays, consumers are now demanding a lot more ... including durability, shock resistant, water-proof and rugged construction. There are only a few manufacturers that actually make rugged USB flash drives that's guaranteed water-proof, and to name a few ... you have Corsair, OCZ, Sandisk and now ATP. So who are ATP? Well, here's a little blurb taken from their website.

"Established in 1991, ATP has over 17 years of experience in the design, manufacture, and support of high performance, highest quality DRAM modules and NAND flash storage products. ATP focuses in mission critical applications such as industrial/automation, telecom, medical, and enterprise computing where high levels of technical support/expertise, consistency of performance, and manufacturing quality are required. A certified Eco/Green partner of tier one OEMs, all ATP products are fully RoHS and China RoHS compliant."

It's crazy-mad how large, USB flash drive capacity have now reached. We are heading towards capacities of 64Gb or more by the end of the year ... right now, the largest we've seen in our labs is 32Gb. So is 8Gb large enough ... hell, yeah!! I mean, I'm still using a 4Gb USB flash drive and it's not even half full. The whole point of a USB flash drive is for quick and easy storage or backup. However, many will want to use a USB flash drive for storing a complete libruary or collection of movies and albums ... this is where 32Gb storage capacity comes in handy.

In this review, we'll be taking a look at the ATP ToughDrive Camo USB flash drive. It features ATP's SIP Technology, Desert Camouflage Print and a large 8Gb of storage capacity. What's more, the outter casing is made from a tough Synthetic Polymer and is designed to give the ATP ToughDrive Camo extra durability, shock resistant, water-proof and, it can withstand extreme temperatures.

We tested the OCZ ATV Turbo (4Gb) USB flash drive last year. We thought it was very good, specially with the external rugged tests. We have fun with it. We expect similar results with the ATP ToughDrive Camo.

It all sounds very extreme ... and to test the ATP ToughDrive Camo, our CPU3D review team will be submerging it in water, throwing it against a concrete wall and smashing it with a hammer. I think these tests are more than enough to see how tough the ATP ToughDrive Camo really is. For performance tests, we used Everest's Disk Test to see what the performance is like for linear and random read/write.

OK, let's take a closer look at the specifications and the ATP ToughDrive Camo (8Gb).
