Verdict and Conclusion

What can I say about these Crucial Ballistix Tracer DDR3-1333 2Gb Kits? Well, performance wise, I thought they did pretty well. They weren't the fastest DDR3 we've tested, but that's expected as they're rated at DDR3-1333 (that's 667Mhz). But having said that, they do offer really good, low memory timings of 6-6-6-20. This helped during some of the gaming benchmarks. Overall, I'm pretty pleased with its performance.

Apart from the decent performance, Crucial's Ballistix Tracer DDR3-1333 2Gb kits does offer something which might appeal to the gamers and enthusiasts. The integrated LEDs ... some love it, while others hate it ... but the Ballistix Tracer DDR3 memory features two rows of eight "chasing" red and green LEDs at the top the module, circulating in a random pattern based on memory utilization. A custom-designed circuit relays bus activity to the LEDs, allowing them to accurately reflect usage of each memory module. In addition, eight blue ground effects LEDs emit a constant glow near the pins. What's more, the Ballistix Tracer DDR3 memory also feature a black PCB with black integrated heat spreaders for effective cooling. With all these extra features, it makes these modules irresistibly attractive to the enthusiast gamer.

For overclocking, the Crucial Ballistix Tracer DDR3-1333 2Gb kits weren't bad either. We were able to overclock them to 770Mhz ... that's DDR3-1540 spec. It's not the highest we've seen .... but nevertheless, it did overclock and it satisfied our requirements. During the overclocking test, we used a Q6600 processor and an Asus P5E3 motherboard, we lowered the multiplier to x8 and increased the CPU frequency to 385Mhz ... this in effect gave us a FSB of 1540Mhz. For stability, we selected AUTO for the memory timings and increase the DDR3 voltage from 1.8V to 2.0V

The price of these Crucial Ballistix Tracer DDR3-1333 2Gb kits are unbelievably affordable. Costing just £70.00 ($112), it's definitely worth considering ... that's if you really want to show off your system. Like I said before, it's a matter of taste. Some of you might think they look cheap and ugly ... while some of you would instantly fall in love with them. No matter what your decision is ... one thing is for sure. Crucial Ballistix Tracer DDR3-1333 2Gb kits offer decent performance, good price and great looks (that's if you like all that eye candy). For me, I love them ... makes our HydroBox V system look so pretty ;)
