"NAS (Network Attached Storage) is now becoming more and more widely available for both home and office users. The Tsunami e-DATA 3500 NAS BT Enclosure allows easy setup of File-Sharing, FTP and BT services."
NAS (Network Attached Storage) devices are great for sharing files, music, movies and data. I use one myself at work ... the QNAP TS-409. Some of these NAS devices can run full WEB, File-Sharing, FTP and even Bit-Torrent services. I find these devices extremely useful, and I am not alone. We are now seeing more and more users both mainstream and business, making use of these devices as part of their office setup.

I was quite intrigued to find that Tsunami have produced a NAS device. I couldn't wait to see what it can do. Price is already a major winner ... so what other features do it offer? I know they've been producing various types of USB enclosures for a number of years. They come in many sizes from a single bay to 2-bay and 4-bay, suitable for both 2.5" and 3.5" hard drives, with some supporting JBOD and RAID. You've probably seen plenty of these Tsunami USB enclosures on eBay, computer fairs and trade shows. In fact, in the past I've actually used a Tsunami USB enclosure for a 2.5" SATA notebook hard drive, and to be honest, it was great ... it gets the job done. So who are Tsunami? Well, here's a little blurb taken from their website ...
"Tsunami was founded in 1994 with one simple vision: Make technology delightful, enjoyable, and life- inspired. We have established manufacturing plants in emerging markets e.g. China and Brazil. Along the years, Tsunami has successfully developed itself as a main player in supplying innovative and high quality products globally. In 2007, based on it’s extensive experience, Tsunami Group has decided to extend their arms into the UK market. Tsunami is seeking to be unique and will provide OEM/ODM, IPO sourcing consultancy service for customers with visions. Tsunami is also proudly to be Intel © exclusive R&D design partner. "

Last week we reviewed a slim HTPC chassis from Tsunami. It was, to put it nicely... one of the cheapest HTPC chassis we've come across. Pricewise, the Tsunami MJR2 Slim HTPC Chassis is trulely unbeatable, but it lacked certain features, styling and build quality. This is by no means a bad product, but for me ... it just didn't meet my high standards. So the saying is true ... "what is pay is what you'll get". The Tsunami MJR2 Slim HTPC Chassis will be suitable for many budget users looking for a cheap and cheerful solution for their HTPC system.
So, after a good grilling from me I hope they can improve on their slim HTPC chassis. Anyway, moving on ... in this review, we'll be taking a look at Tsunami's e-DATA 3500 NAS BT enclosure. Although the unit looks like a 2-bay enclosure, it actually only fits one SATA hard drive. It supports both USB and eSATA, and features one RJ45 network connection. The enclosure has a 80mm fan on the top of the casing for cooling and allows sufficient airflow. There's no RAID support and no hot-spare capabilities.

Looking the specifications and features, the Tsunami e-DATA 3500 NAS BT enclosure looks promising. It's one of the first "affordable" NAS enclosure I've come across, that offers support for FTP, file-sharing and Bit-Torrent services. But the main question is ... will it cut the mustard?
OK let's not waste any more time and take a closer look at the Tsunami e-DATA 3500 NAS BT enclosure ...
