CPU3D Exclusive: Gigabyte Spring Break Plug-Fest 2008
CPU3D is proud to present an exclusive coverage of Gigabyte's Spring Break Plug-Fest 2008. This year Gigabyte have gone out of their way, to really promote their up-and-coming motherboards based on Intel's lastest P45 chipset, which is still under NDA. We were invited to attend their exclusive, invitation-only event at their head quarters in Taipei, Taiwan.
The main purpose of the event was to allow the press and media organisations from around the world, to have an exclusive first look at Gigabyte's new range of up-and-coming P45 based motherboards, which will be released later in June. The whole day was quite quite erratic, with over 22 media representitives from around the world registering at the main reception in Gigabyte's head quarters. The atmosphere was amazing, and the place was buzzing with TV crews, photographers and local press ... all wanting a slice of the action.
After registration, we were guided to a large conference room with several rows of tables lined across (rather like a class room). Each of us had a desk to ourselves, which was prepared ready with a monitor, CPU cooler, power supply, keyboard and mouse. After the inital product introduction from Gigabyte, Intel, Infineon and Realtek, we were randomly given a box containing a P45 motherboard, 2 modules of DDR2 ram and a graphics card.
Gigabyte had four models of their P45 motherboard series available for testing ... GA-EP45 DS3R, GA-EP45 DS4, GA-EP45 DS5 and GA-EP45 DQ6. The latter two models includes the new TPM feature for added security, the new SATA Raid from Silicon Image, and the new Realtek 4Gbit LAN feature!!

Gigabyte HQ in Taipei |
|
|
Yes, it~s the entire building |
|
|
The 3rd Floor is where you will find all the sales and marketing reps |
|
|
As you enter the lobby, there is a huge display showing off their DES |
|
|
Inside the lobby are display cabinets for their latest motherboards |
|
|
The lobby is large and spacious - an ideal place to meet up |
|
We are then allowed to perform benchmarks, test, tweak and overclock as we like ... with no limitation. In fact, Gigabyte allow us to bring our own equipment if we wanted for testing. So I took the opportunity to call a good friend of mine from Coolermaster in Taiwan ... and asked him to drop a power supply and the recently released Hyper Z600 passive CPU Cooler to me. Thanks :)
Let the FUN begin !!! ....

CPU3D Interviews Henry Kao (Vice President - Gigabyte United)
CPU3D brings you an exclusive interview with Gigabyte's Henry Kao, Vice President of Gigabyte United. We talk about Gigabyte's future plans for 2008/2009 and also their stance on the mainstream and enthusiast markets.
I arrived last night on the 5th May. A driver picked me up at the airport and dropped me off at the hotel, which I may add, is excellent to say the least. After a good night's sleep ... it's time for a busy schedule the following day.
Gigabyte has a complete tower as their head quarters in Taipei. There's a total of 10 floors not including basement levels. The sales and marketing department occupy 2 floors, while their R&D team also occupy another 2 floors. I had a brief tour of their head quarters before interviewing Henry Kao, Vice President of Gigabyte United.

Project: YAMAHA 50th Anniversary Stacker
"Well its been a long time coming but just before i jump in with both feet, a little background.... Its well known that apart from computers and cars i'm also into bikes which i follow each year and after seeing Valentino Rossi on the 50th anniversary Yamaha in the yellow, white and black livery it was inevitable really that i'd try to replicate it onto a case.
I know a few of my cases have used various grills and scoops and they have been seen before but looking around they are becoming quite a noticeable feature in my cases and on this one essential........plus i'm proud of em tbh so no apologies for using them again
I'm starting to have second thoughts about giving this one away but i did say the next one made would be first prize in the next CC competition and rest assured once finished this one will be up for grabs "
Check out the rest of this fantastic project ... HERE.

I'm heading off to Taiwan ... Land of the manufacturers
I'm heading off to Taiwan in May for one week ... No, it's not a holiday. It's work related, but I have a feeling it's going to be a great trip. I can't tell you any more details as yet, but I will make a further announcement in May.
This trip will be a great opportunity to find out what top manufacturers get upto in their headquarters. I understand that, when I arrive ... I will be wisked away to a lab where, there will be a certain manufacturer showcasing their new product. I can't tell you who they are just yet ... but I guaranty you it will be very interesting.
I have a few friends in Taiwan, so hopefully we will get to meet up and experience the night life and soak up the atmosphere. Don't worry there will be pleny of photos and blogs ...

Web Log Update April 2008
Just a quick update on what's been happening to CPU3D over the past few months. It's now April 2008, and we're already 1/4 of the way through the year. Boy! hasn't it been fast?
Anyway ... congratulations to my eldest brother James and my sister-in-law. They've just had a new healthy baby boy! Yes, it's another nephew ... his name is Edmond. Both my little brothers, Wai and Yao has decided to spread their wings, and started their new journey towards a bigger and better future. Good luck, I wish them all the best.
Well for me ... the story's the same. Life goes on no matter what. As long as you give it your all, and you've tried your best ... you can't ask for more. CPU3D for life!
Well, before I go. I must say a BIG "Thank You" to all our visitors, readers, forum members, our sponsors and my CPU3D team members. It's been a great start to 2008, and it will continue to be great for the remainder of the year!
