Introduction ASUS was established in 1989 in Taiwan and they are among the first pioneers in motherboard manufacturing. In February 2002, the BDA (Blu-ray Disc Association) is formed, in which a group of leading electronics maufacturers and they are Hitachi, LG, Panasonic, Pioneer, Philips, Samsung, Sharp, Sony, and Thomson, and later joined by Apple, Dell, and Panasonic.
 
Not being too technical, it's name is derived from the blue-violet laser which are used to read and write this type of disc. It is the latest form of high density optical disc with the capacity of 25GB for a single-layer and 50GB for a dual-layer. That is alot of GB for a single disc compare to a DVD disc which has only 4.7GB capacity. The Asus BC-1205PT is, for a better description ... a Blu-Ray combo drive. Do you remember those CDRW/DVD combo drives 5-6 years ago? ... that's when DVD-Writers were expensive. This is what this unit is ... just a Blu-Ray combo drive.
