The Asus brings us their Geforce 8800GT 512Mb using Nvidia's latest G92 GPU. Does it really live up to all the hype?

INTRODUCTION

Here we are again with another monster of a graphics card!  Today were looking at the Asus EN8800GT model!  Now Asus aren’t new to us and neither are they new to the graphics card scene, so it will be very interesting to find out what Asus really have done to this Nvidia Board to make it shine!

Known for bringing their components in the biggest packaging they can find Asus have given the customer a massive collection of goodies and tools with the 8800GT.  Once the box is open you will find a PCI-e Connector, S-video to component lead as well as a Single DVI to VGA connection lead.  You also get all of your necessary driver cd’s within the package as well as your very own copy of Company of Heroes Opposing Fronts!  It’s nice that when you are prepared to purchase such a graphics card not to mention its hefty price tag you are rewarded with a game equal to about £29.99 in worth!

When it comes to reshaping the card Asus haven’t done much!  They have placed a bog standard cooler on the top to reduce temperature levels and have further advertised their involvement with Company of Heroes which comes bundled in the package!  The card looks nice and it sits with ease in the motherboard.  Unfortunately the design is facing downwards in your case so you will hardly ever appreciate the design if you have a window on your case!

The card utilises Nvidia's much talked about G92 GPU manufactured using 65nm technology. It also features 512Mb of DDR3 ram and should perform quite well in our benchmark tests. However, there are a few concerns I need to address. Asus also have another version of the same card with the name "TOP" at the end. The TOP (Top Overclocking Performance) version is basically an overclocked version of the the card that we are reviewing. And to add to this, Asus have also released their newer EN8800GTS 512Mb, which uses the new G92 GPU. All of this could add confusion for the user in making the right choice.

OK, enough talking ... let's take a closer look at the specifications and see how well the Asus EN8800GT with the new G92 GPU can perform in our tests.
