Alphacool NexXxos XP Bold CPU waterblock ... A waterblock with 53 nozzles for hi-flow rate.

Introduction

Alphacool - The Cooling Company is based in Germany and specialise in watercooling for the PC. They produce high quality copper waterblocks for CPUs, GPUs and Chipsets, as well as LCD displays for monitoring your system. Other products which they also produce include pumps, radiators, coolant and watercooling accessories. Over the past year or so, Alphacool has grown tremendously, expanding their products to include a new range of high quality waterblocks for both CPU and GPU. With this expansion, they now have distributors worldwide reaching as far as Taiwan, Japan and Australia.

The CPU has always been one of the main components that a lot of enthusiasts would consider when watercooling. Higher and better overclocks can be achieved using watercooling ... there's no doubt about that. Excess heat from overclocking can be dissipated a lot better, using watercooling than standard heatsink and fan. And that is why CPU watercooling is now become more and more prominent in today's enthusiasts market. But be warned, watercooling setups are NOT cheap. You have to consider the cost of the other associated components, such as radiators, pumps, resevoir, connectors and tubing. A lot of planning is required, and the cost can mount up.

Choosing the right watercooling components within your budget is the key. There are some very expensive watercooling components out there, however not all perform the same. But, you'll be glad to know that Alphacool components are generally cheaper than most out there on the market. Still, you need consider the rest of the watercooling components.

We recently reviewed the Alphacool NVXP-G8 GPU waterblock, which we thought produced some good results overall. Our Geforce 8800GTS ran on average, 8-10 degrees C cooler than the stock HSF. As I've said before, I'm an avid fan of watercooling. Give me a watercooled PC anytime. They look great and it's unique to the user. If I had the money and time ... I'll make all my PCs watercooled.

In this review, our CPU3D review team will be taking a look at the Alphacool NexXxos XP Bold CPU waterblock. This waterblock is designed to be compatible with motherboards that support Intel socket 775 processors, and has a pure copper base for efficient heat transfer. It features a unique 53 nozzle system for a hi-flow rate and comes with ready-to-fit inlet and oulet for mounting 10/8mm connectors. The nozzles allows an extremely balanced dispersal of coolant to the heated area, and with the help of 8 backflow channels it can quickly take the heated coolant away to the radiator. The kit also comes with thermal paste and a comlete mounting kit, with screws, washers, springs and nuts.

We will be installing this waterblock on our Asus P5E3 Deluxe motherboard. The processor we will be using is a Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600. Once fully fitted and secured, we will be installing it to our already made HydroBox rig, which already has a 2x120mm radiator, resevoir, hi-flow pump and 8/10mm tubing. In our tests, our CPU is mildly overclocked at 3.2Ghz (8x400), with the CPU voltage at 1.4V. We're expecting some good cooling results for both idle and load, but how well will it compete against the Swiftec Apogee GTX?

OK, let's not waste any more time and take a closer look at the Alphacool NexXxos XP Bold CPU waterblock.
