" In an ideal world you would want to lap both the heatsink and your CPU ... by lapping the heatsink you are making it completely flat in order to ensure a better contact.  "

Lapping Continued

Lapping Continued

You can see how uneven the surface was to start, but i was getting there slowly...

Almost there now, just a tiny bit of nickel left...

I had finally got rid of all the nickel and the nice copper base was showing through. Now i moved onto the next grit.

I then spent around 5-10 minutes on each grit level, i used circular and figure of eight movements up until 1200 grit. I did this because using circular motions ensures a flatter surface, but it was leave more scratches.

So i then knew it was totally flat, i started to use forward and back movements to get a shiny finish and polish out those scratches.

After i used all the grits, i used Brasso cleaner to buff to a reflective sheen.

After that, i cleaned it up with Articlean and installed it.  When i finally got into Windows, temps wern't too shabby so i think it was worth it.

These temps are with everything at stock levels, i am in the process of overclocking so look out for my next update ;)
